Inje University Brings Energy to the City with New Students, Ushering in a New Era of University Culture with the Community

February 28, 2025137

Inje University hosted its Freshman Entrance Ceremony and Cultural Festival, “City as Campus, Culture Plus,” on the 28th at Gimhae Campus and Maru Hall of the Gimhae Arts and Culture Center. The event was designed as a cultural festival in collaboration with the local community, reflecting the university’s vision as a Glocal University and marking a symbolic step in realizing the All-City Campus initiative, which aims to integrate the university with the city of Gimhae.

Breaking away from the traditional on-campus entrance ceremony, this year’s event combined a formal welcome ceremony with cultural performances at the Gimhae Arts and Culture Center, a key cultural venue in the city. More than 2,000 attendees, including new students, parents, faculty, and local residents, participated in the event. By holding the entrance ceremony in the heart of the city, Inje University emphasized its commitment to fostering Glocal talents who grow together with the local community.

A highlight of the event was the performance of "NANTA" by PMC Production, a globally renowned non-verbal show that reinterprets traditional Korean rhythms in a contemporary style. The performance was designed as an interactive experience, allowing new students, current students, and local residents to engage with the show together. The dynamic stage production and immersive sound created an atmosphere where the university and the community naturally connected through culture.

To encourage interaction between new students and the local community, various youth-centered cultural programs were prepared. Inje University’s central student clubs set up promotional booths to introduce their activities, while a separate booth provided information on the All-City Campus concept. Interactive experience zones, including game booths, photo stations, and themed areas, were also set up to offer students and residents opportunities to connect and engage in a shared cultural space.

The collaboration with the Gimhae Cultural Foundation was a significant feature of the event, extending the university’s cultural engagement beyond the campus. By allowing new students to begin their university life while naturally integrating into the local community, the event set a precedent for a new university culture where academics, arts, and regional identity merge. It also highlighted Inje University’s role in contributing to local culture, economic growth, and youth retention.

President Jeon Minhyon stated that the festival provided an opportunity for new students to start their academic journey immersed in local culture and emphasized that the event marks an important first step toward realizing the All-City Campus model, where the university and the region develop together.

Since being designated a Glocal University last year, Inje University has actively pursued various regional cooperation initiatives. Moving forward, the university plans to expand its collaboration with the local community through similar cultural events, further solidifying its role as a key driver of local and global integration.
