On the 27th, Inje University’s Paik Inje Memorial Library received the 57th Korean Library Award (Institutional Award) at the 76th General Assembly of the Korean Library Association, held at the National Assembly Library. Notably, it was the only private university library in the nation to be recognized, earning the award for expanding research support, revitalizing cultural programs, and strengthening collaboration with the local community—efforts that have broadened the role of university libraries.
Established in 1969, the Korean Library Award is the highest honor in the country’s library sector, given to institutions and individuals who have significantly contributed to library development. This marks the second time since 2011 that Paik Inje Memorial Library has received this award, solidifying its reputation as a model for university libraries bridging academia and local communities.
Paik Inje Memorial Library has enhanced its role by expanding research support services, building advanced learning infrastructure, and providing student-centered career and entrepreneurship programs, fostering both academic growth and practical skills. Additionally, the library promotes social engagement through literacy education, humanities programs, regional content creation, and expanded access for community members.
One of its standout initiatives is the “Open Library” model, introduced last year as the first among private universities in Korea. This initiative ensures librarians are available on weekends to provide borrowing, return, and information services, aligning with Inje University’s All-City Campus strategy, which aims to integrate university resources with the local community for continuous education and shared growth.
Lee Hyungwon, Director of Paik Inje Memorial Library, stated, “We have strived to create an open library that actively supports research, culture, and community engagement, and we are honored to have our efforts recognized. Moving forward, we will continue to develop the library into a space that fosters interaction and growth beyond a traditional repository of resources.”
Since being designated a Glocal University last year, Inje University has pursued the vision of “A City That Supports the University, A University That Supports the City.” In line with this vision, the library plans to expand cultural and educational programs in collaboration with the local community, further solidifying its role as a key hub for the successful operation of the Glocal University initiative.
